Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
Reading – Isaiah 50: 6
I gave my back to those who struck me,
and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard;
I did not hide my face
from insult and spitting.
Reflection
Veronica steps through the crowd to wipe the face of Jesus. Veronica comes from tradition, not scriptures, but she is a character given a name for this purpose. Would you dare to offer compassion and comfort to Jesus, even among a hostile crowd? We pray for the Veronicas of this world. We pray for Christian Aid, Oxfam, and many other organisations. Lord give us the gift of compassion.

We adore you O Christ and we bless you,
Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
