Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother

Reading – Luke 2: 34-35

Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, ‘This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.’

Reflection

Jesus meets his mother, Mary, who is filled with grief. It is a terrible thing to lose a child. Mary would see her son murdered. We pray for those who have lost children at the hands of others. We pray for those who work against knife crime and promote strategies to keep our children safe.
